Curing the Ills of Higgsless Models: the S Parameter and Unitarity

چکیده
We consider various constraints on Higgsless models of electroweak symmetry breaking based on a bulk SU(2)L×SU(2)R×U(1)B−L gauge group in warped space. First we show that the S parameter which is positive if fermions are localized on the Planck brane can be lowered (or made vanishing) by changing the localization of the light fermions. If the wave function of the light fermions is almost flat their coupling to the gauge boson KK modes will be close to vanishing, and therefore contributions to the S parameter will be suppressed. At the same time the experimental bounds on such Z ′ and W ′ gauge bosons become very weak, and their masses can be lowered to make sure that perturbative unitarity is not violated in this theory before reaching energies of several TeV. The biggest difficulty of these models is to incorporate a heavy top quark mass without violating any of the experimental bounds on bottom quark gauge couplings. In the simplest models of fermion masses a sufficiently heavy top quark also implies an unacceptably large correction to the Zbb̄ vertex and a large splitting between the KK modes of the top and bottom quarks, yielding large loop corrections to the T -parameter. We present possible directions for model building where perhaps these constraints could be obeyed as well. Phenomenology of Higgsless Models at the LHC and the ILC
We investigate the signatures of the recently proposed Higgsless models at future colliders. We focus on tests of the mechanism of partial unitarity restoration in the longitudinal vector boson scattering, which do not depend on any Higgsless model-building details. We study the LHC discovery reach for charged massive vector boson resonances and show that all of the preferred parameter space wi...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Exploration of Warped Higgsless Models * †
We have performed a detailed Monte Carlo exploration of the parameter space for a warped Higgsless model of electroweak symmetry breaking in 5 dimensions. This model is based on the SU (2) L × SU (2) R × U (1) B−L gauge group in an AdS 5 bulk with arbitrary gauge kinetic terms on both the Planck and TeV branes. Constraints arising from precision electroweak measurements and collider data are fo...
متن کاملPrecision Electroweak Physics and Higgsless Models in Warped Space
We study tree level corrections to precision electroweak physics in the recently proposed Higgsless models in warped space. Such models inherit from their similarity with technicolor theories a large contribution to the oblique parameters, S in particular. We show that it is possible to suppress S using brane induced kinetic terms and unequal left-right bulk gauge couplings, paying the price of...
متن کاملNDA and perturbativity in Higgsless models
We analyze unitarity violation in 5D Higgsless theories using tree level unitarity bounds on gauge vector bosons scatterings. Both elastic and inelastic amplitudes are analytically computed and used to estimate the perturbativity cutoff. The results are compared with 5D NDA estimates. The inelastic channels are essential for a correct determination of the cutoff when light KK states are present...
متن کاملAn Effective Higgsless Theory: Satisfying Electroweak Constraints and a Heavy Top Quark
The main challenge faced by Higgsless models of electroweak symmetry breaking is to reconcile the experimental constraints imposed by the precision electroweak data and the top quark phenomenology with the unitarity constraints imposed by longitudinal gauge boson scattering amplitudes. In this paper we expand on previous work, giving details of how delocalized fermions can be used to adjust the...
